The Drivex Academy Pass Plus Course follows the recommended Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency Pass Plus syllabus and usually lasts for one day. Subjects covered are:
Because of the limited scope of Island roads the courses takes place on the mainland and will include driving on and off the car ferries.
The course is open to any driver who wishes to gain valuable experience driving on the mainland and can be conducted in one of our vehicles or in your own vehicle. You can even take our Pass Plus Course if you learnt to drive with a different instructor!
To gain official D.V.S.A. recognition of your pass Plus Course and hence qualify for potential car insurance discounts you must take your Pass Plus Course within one year of passing your driving test.
DSA Pass Plus Course (1-day): £275.00
Course fee includes use of instructor's vehicle including fuel and insurance, return car ferry travel to the mainland and all course documentation. A reduction of £25.00 will be made if the course is conducted in the candidate's own vehicle.
Please note that for logistical and seasonal reasons the night-time element of the course may have to be conducted on a different day to the main part of the course. In this event there will be no increase to the course fee.

'This course is a must for anyone who wishes to tow heavy trailers that fall outside the category B limitations'.
The Drivex Academy Trailer Towing Licence Course is aimed at giving candidates the opportunity to take the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency B+E Practical Car and Trailer Test. This course is a must for anyone who wishes to tow heavy trailers that fall outside the category B limitations.
Towing trailers on a category B licence is permitted provided that the following conditions are met:
i. If the towing vehicle has a MAM of 3500kgs then a trailer of up to 750kgs MAM is permitted
OR
ii. If the towing vehicle has a MAM of less than 3500kgs then a trailer can be towed provided that:
a) the towing vehicle MAM and the trailer MAM combined do not exceed 3500kgs
AND
b) the trailer MAM does not exceed the unladen weight of the towing vehicle.
It should be noted that condition b) above will be removed for anyone passing a car test after January 19th 2013.
To tow trailers outside of these limitations licence category B+E is required.

The B+E practical Test usually lasts for about an hour and a quarter and on the Isle of Wight is taken at the LGV Test Centre at Rookley. This is a part-time test centre and is usually only open two days per month, so we recommend contacting us at the earliest opportunity to reserve your test slot!
The course normally starts with a three-hour assessment session which is used to establish any existing trailer skills the candidate might have with respect to the required syllabus of the B+E Practical Test.
The remainder of the course can then be arranged to coincide with the candidate's B+E test date and can be tailored to suit each candidate's skill levels as determined by their assessment session.

'You might know the theory behind keeping control of a car in slippery conditions but could you put it into practice?'
It is an unfortunate fact that young, inexperienced drivers are involved in a disproportionately high number of crashes involving fatalities and serious injuries and these are predominantly as a result of the driver losing control of their vehicle and hitting other vehicles and / or leaving the road.
The Drivex Academy Skid Control Course allows candidates to experience how it feels to lose control of a car in slippery conditions and how to subsequently regain control. Candidates will thus have that valuable extra knowledge and skill should they find themselves in a similar situation for real, hopefully keeping them and their passengers safe.
The course takes place at the Skid Pan facility within the historic Goodwood Racing Circuit near Chichester, West Sussex.

However, the thought of driving on the wrong side of the road and dealing with unfamiliar signs and junctions can be a daunting prospect for some. So why not take one of our Introduction to driving in France courses to give you a confidence-boosting head start to your continental adventures!
The courses are for one or two candidates and include a full day driving in France. The courses can be extended if required. Originally designed for residents of the Isle of Wight, these courses can be provided for anyone in the South of England.
