Courses for Approved Driving Instructors

Drivex offers a number of courses for current D.V.S.A. Approved Driving Instructors. All of our courses are aimed at giving delegates a wider field of knowledge leading to enhanced teaching skills, increased business opportunities and improved income potential.

ADI Fleet Instructor Course (5-day, DVSA-Accredited)

Course Aims:

This is the ideal course to allow existing D.S.A. Approved Driving Instructors (ADIs) to gain entitlement to enter the D.V.S.A. Fleet Instructor Register and to subsequently deliver work-related driver training courses to industry and other sectors. The course is also an ideal way for ADIs to expand their Continual Professional Development (CPD) Portfolio.

Course Objectives:      

  • To enable delegates to qualify for entry to the DVSA  Register of Fleet Driver Trainers

  • To enable delegates to assess the driving standard of a wide range of drivers, and to be able to deliver meaningful, prioritised training in response to any identified areas of risk

Who should attend?

Any ADI who wishes to enter the field of Fleet Driver assessment and training.

Course Duration:

Normally five consecutive days, Monday to Friday.

Course Location:

Normally Drivex Training Centre in Southampton but for groups of four or more delegates can be located anywhere in the U.K.

ADI Fleet Instructor Course, Part 1 (1-day, DVSA-Accredited)

This is the ideal course to allow existing D.V.S.A. Approved Driving Instructors (ADIs) to take the first step towards gaining entitlement to enter the D.S.A. Fleet Instructor Register and to subsequently deliver work-related driver training courses to industry and other sectors. The course is also an ideal way for ADIs to expand their Continual Professional Development (CPD) Portfolio.

Course Objectives:      

  • To enable delegates to take the Drivex Part 1 Fleet Instructor Theory Test required for entry to the DVSA  Register of Fleet Driver Trainers

  • To enable delegates to understand how driving for work differs from driving socially.

  • To enable delegates to understand a driver risk assessment.

 

Who should attend?

Any ADI who wishes to enter the field of Fleet Driver assessment and training.

Course Duration:

One day.

Course Location:

Normally Drivex Training Centre in Southampton but for groups of four or more delegates can be located anywhere in the U.K.

Successful completion of this course leads to the delegate holding a Drivex Fleet Course Part 1 Theory Test Pass Certificate. This will allow the delegate to move on to the Drivex Fleet Course Part 2 Advanced Driving Course.

This course normally runs on a group basis but can be tailored to suit individual course requirements.

ADI Fleet Instructor Course, Part 2 (2-day, DVSA-Accredited)

Fleet Instructor Register and to subsequently deliver work-related driver training courses to industry and other sectors. The course is also an ideal way for ADIs to expand their Continual Professional Development (CPD) Portfolio.

Course Objectives:      

  • To enable delegates to take the Drivex Part 2 Fleet Instructor Test of Driving Ability required for entry to the DVSA  Register of Fleet Driver Trainers.
  • To enable delegates to drive to a higher standard and to be able to assess driving situations and actions in terms of risk.

Who should attend?

Any ADI who wishes to enter the field of Fleet Driver assessment and training and who has passed the Drivex Fleet Course Part 1 Theory Test.

Course Duration:

Two days.

Course Location:

Normally Drivex Training Centre in Southampton but can be located anywhere in the U.K.

Successful completion of this course leads to the delegate holding a Drivex Fleet Course Part 2 Test of Driving Ability Pass Certificate. This will allow the delegate to move on to the Drivex Fleet Course Part 3 Driver Assessment Course.

This course normally runs on a 1:1, 2:1 or 3:1 delegate to trainer ratio to suit individual course requirements.

  • To enable delegates to take the Drivex Part 3 Fleet Instructor Test of Instructional / Coaching Ability.
  • To enable delegates to qualify for entry to the DVSA  Register of Fleet Driver Trainers
  • To enable delegates to assess the driving standard of a wide range of drivers, and to be able to deliver meaningful, prioritised training in response to any identified areas of risk

Who should attend?

Any ADI who wishes to enter the field of Fleet Driver assessment and training and who has passed the Drivex Fleet Course Part 1 Theory Test. and the Drivex Fleet Course Part 2 Test of Driving Ability.

Course Duration:

Three days.

Course Location:

Normally Drivex Training Centre in Southampton but can be located anywhere in the U.K.

Successful completion of this course leads to the delegate holding a Drivex Fleet Course Part 3 Test of Instructional / Coaching Ability Pass Certificate. This will lead to entitlement to enter the D.V.S.A. Fleet Instructor Register

This course normally runs on a 1:1, 2:1 or 3:1 delegate to trainer ratio to suit individual course requirements.

ADI B+E Trailer Instructor Course (1-day)

Course Aims:  

This is the ideal course to allow existing D.V.S.A. Approved Driving Instructors (ADIs) to gain an introduction into teaching trailer skills and how to prepare students for the B+E Car and Trailer Practical Test. The course is also an ideal way for ADIs to expand their Continual Professional Development (CPD) Portfolio.

 

Course Objectives:      

  • To enable delegates to understand the Driving Licence entitlements regarding towing.
  • To enable delegates to teach correct procedures for coupling and uncoupling trailers.
  • To enable delegates to teach trailer reversing skills. 
  • To enable delegates to assess the driving standard of a wide range of drivers, and to be able to deliver meaningful, prioritised training in response to any identified areas of risk with respect to towing heavy trailers.
  • To enable delegates to understand the Practical B+E Driving Test procedures.
  • To enable delegates to prepare students for the Practical B+E Driving Test.

Who should attend?

Any ADI who wishes to enter the field of category B+E Trailer Training.

Course Duration:

Normally one day.

'There may no longer be a mandatory B+E test for licence acquisition, but the Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998 (PUWER) make the safe use of trailers the responsibility all businesses and organisations that need staff and volunteers to tow safely.....'

Course Location:

Anywhere in the U.K.

ADI C1 LGV Instructor Course (2-day)

Course Aims:  

'The further we are from 1997, the more demand there will be for C1 training and tests.....'

This is the ideal course to allow existing D.V.S.A. Approved Driving Instructors (ADIs) to gain an introduction into teaching LGV Category C1 skills and how to prepare students for the C1 Practical Test and the LGV Practical CPC Test. The course is also an ideal way for ADIs to expand their Continual Professional Development (CPD) Portfolio.

Course Objectives:      .

  • To enable delegates to teach Category C1 reversing skills. 
  • To enable delegates to assess the driving standard of a wide range of drivers, and to be able to deliver meaningful, prioritised training in response to any identified areas of risk with respect to driving Category C1 vehicles.
  • To enable delegates to understand the Practical C1 Driving Test procedures.
  • To enable delegates to prepare students for the Practical C1 Driving Test.
  • To enable delegates to prepare students for the Practical C1 CPC Test.

Who should attend?

Any ADI who wishes to enter the field of category C1 Driver Training.

Course Duration:

Normally two days.

Course Location:

Anywhere in the U.K.

Preparatory Work:

All delegates must hold a full UK Driving Licence (categories B and C1) and be a DVSA Approved Driving Instructor (Car). Note:In order to train provisional C1 licence holders instructors must hold a category C1 driving licence by virtue of passing a C1 practical test and must have held this licence for at least three years.

Additional Information:

This course can be conducted in delegates’ own vehicles or one of our vehicles.

This course normally runs on a 1:1 or 2:1 delegate to trainer ratio to suit individual course requirements.
